Our EAL “Men of Tomorrow” Program for Men

Our EAL “Men of Tomorrow” program has been specifically designed for young men, aged 14-18yrs, to help them address and break the cycles of negative learned behaviours and equip them with the appropriate skills to navigate today’s challenges in a healthy, more constructive way.

This unique program has come about due to the demand from two avenues.

Firstly, from the Youth Support Agencies and Schools we work with who have reported the lack of practical, hands-on life-skills programs that address the specific needs of young men growing up in our today’s society.

Secondly, from the women/mothers who have attended our EAL “Re-Build” program and wish for their sons to attend our outcomes-based program in order to support them in their recovery from family violence, and to re-enforce that using violence in relationships is never acceptable.

This program is about early intervention ……. giving these young men the ability to create a different future for themselves – one where they can become the best person they can be.

Potential Outcomes

Personal Growth

These young men will learn how to regulate their own emotions and behaviours in challenging circumstances, understand the triggers, and build the resilience and skills to be able to handle change in a more socially acceptable manner.

They will begin to understand what integrity and courage mean, learn to trust themselves and others, and how to become authentic leaders and valuable, supportive team-members.

Interpersonal & Relationship Skills

The program will teach these young men a more effective way of communicating.  They will learn how to set healthy boundaries for themselves and others so they can build strong, positive relationships to guide and mentor them going forward, show empathy and support to others, thereby reducing the feeling of isolation and lack of belonging.

Shaping a better future

The confidence and self-worth they will gain from this program will impact greatly on their ability to engage with school and family, reach out and ask for support, and gain a positive sense of mental health and well-being.

These essential skills will increase their ability to build positive social and community relationships, as well as gaining future employment and economic and mental stability.

Participant Feedback

School / Youth Agency Feedback

The students selected for this program came from varied backgrounds, some with multiple complexities and vulnerabilities.  The students involved had experienced challenges with school engagement, self-confidence, self-esteem, identity, relationships, and community participation.  These included experiences of domestic and family violence, child safety involvement, homelessness, mental health challenges, gender and sexuality adversities, relationship conflicts, learning difficulties, bullying and social isolation.

Through active working tasks with RTT’s “horse teachers” and the meaningful structured conversations that followed, our students learnt valuable lessons in communication, team engagement, self-regulation, leadership, confidence, trust, problem-solving, healthy boundaries and assertiveness.

We have observed the benefits of this through increased academic performance, including growing rate of attendance, participation and achievement; improved self-help seeking behaviours; and increased participation and socialisation in their community.
